Linstow Art Award receives over 60 applications from emerging Latvian artists

In its inaugural year, the Linstow Art Award has received more than 60 applications from graduates of the Master’s program at the Art Academy of Latvia. This strong response underscores the relevance and demand for such an initiative within both academic and professional cultural spheres. The mission of the Linstow Art Award is to give long-term support to young Latvian artists, ensuring a stronger art community and a lasting presence of art in the city.

“The impressive number of submissions in the very first year of the Linstow Art Award confirms just how vital this kind of initiative is in supporting the professional development of emerging artists. The Linstow Art Award has established itself as a reliable and sustainable platform that provides both visibility and practical support — including access to a year-long studio space. We sincerely thank the Art Academy of Latvia — especially Rector Kristaps Zariņš and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Antra Priede — for their trust, responsiveness, and significant contribution to the creation of this initiative. We believe the Linstow Art Award will serve as valuable support for nurturing artistic talent. We wish all applicants creative energy and continued success,” emphasizes Evija Majevska, Commercial Director of Linstow Baltic.

All submitted works will be evaluated by an international jury comprised of distinguished experts from Latvia and abroad, with professional experience in contemporary art, design, architecture, and cultural policy. The evaluation process is currently underway online, while the in-person jury session will take place in Riga on June 11. Winners will be announced on June 20.

The evaluation criteria include the applicant’s previous work and future potential of the artis, the quality and technical execution of the submitted artwork, combining both formal and thematic aspects, craftsmanship in the creation of the artwork, and the relevance of the work’s conceptual message.

The Linstow Art Award offers targeted financial and practical support during the initial stages of young artists’ careers, including access to art studios and financial support.

Three Linstow Art Award awardees will receive:

  • A monetary award of € 3000 (net),
  • One year of access to an art studio at the creative SPORTA 2 quarter in Riga (www.sporta2.com),
  • The opportunity to exhibit artworks.

The Linstow Art Award was established in 2025 through a collaboration between Linstow Baltic, a leading real estate developer in the Baltics, and the Art Academy of Latvia. The goal of the initiative is to create a sustainable, modern platform for launching and nurturing the careers of Latvian artists. Each year, the program aims to support three of the most talented graduates of the Art Academy of Latvia’s master’s program.
